MAPELA COMMUNITY UPLIFTMENT TRUST
COMMUNITY TRUSTEES SELECTION
Mapela Community Upliftment Trust (CUT) was registered on 31 July 2023, with the primary objective to hold the Trust Assets in trust on behalf of the Beneficiaries and to protect and to use and to develop the Trust Assets for the benefit of the Beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries of the Mapela Community Upliftment Trust (CUT) includes collectively, and in their individual capacities, the following persons or entities: the Community; Holding Company; and Mapela Non-Profit Company.
Mapela Community Upliftment Trust (CUT) is undergoing a process of selecting three (3) Community Trustees (members of Mapela communities) to the Board and shall serve a maximum period of three years. Election Solutions for Africa (ES4A) has been appointed to manage the Community Selection Process and ensure the process is undertaken in a transparent and fair manner.
The Selection Process is comprised of the following phases:
Phase 1: Registration and Nomination Form Distribution.
Phase 2: Submission of Nominations by registered members.
Phase 3: Candidate Interviews managed by the Selection Panel.
The Mapela Community Upliftment Trust invites eligible community members who are a permanent resident in one (1) of Mapela Communities to participate in the selection process by registering to submit a nomination of an eligible persons to stand as a candidate for selection as Community Trustees to sit on its Board. All eligible community members are encouraged to register to participate in the Community Trustees Selection Process.
PHASE 1: REGISTRATIONS (CLOSED)
REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS
- Permanent Resident: Must be a person who is a permanent resident in the in one (1) of the Mapela Communities.
- South African Citizen: Must be a South African Citizen in possession of a valid South African Identity Document; and
- 18 years of age: Must be a person 18 years of age or older on the date of registration.
PHASE 2: SUBMISSION OF NOMINATIONS (CLOSED)
Candidate nominations must be submitted on a fully completed nomination form as provided in the nomination pack which will be distributed to members during the Registrations Phase. The nomination form will be required to be completed and signed by the following participants:
- Beneficiary 1 (Person lodging the nomination): A successfully registered community member who will be lodging the nomination.
- Beneficiary 2 (Person seconding the nomination): A successfully registered community member who will be seconding the nomination lodged by Beneficiary 1.
- Nominee (Person being nominated): The person being nominated as a candidate to stand for selection.
PHASE 3: CANDIDATE INVTERVIEWS MANAGED BY THE SELECTION PANEL
The Selection Panel will comprise of representatives nominated from various organisations and will be tasked to review the candidates list, review the objections, shortlist the candidates for the interview process and conduct the candidate interview process.
DISQUALIFICATION FROM BEING A TRUSTEE:
A person shall be disqualified from being a Trustee if:
- such person has been placed under sequestration, whether provisional or final or has committed an act of insolvency as defined in the Insolvency Act, 1936
- such a person is or becomes ineligible or disqualified to hold the office of a director or a prescribed office in accordance with section 69 of the Companies Act, 71 of 2008;
- such a person becomes insane or incapable of managing his affairs or is declared prodigal;
- such person commits an offence involving dishonesty under the laws of any country;
- such a person is removed from office by a Court or the Master of the High Court in terms of section 20 of the Trust Property Control Act;
- such a person is removed from office by the party or body who appointed him or her as a Trustee;such a person or any corporate entity in which they or their family members have an interest has entered into a contract with the Trust and /or the Holding Company.
